A porcelain crown is a replacement for your own tooth. If your tooth is so damaged that it cannot be repaired, then the crown will be used.Porcelain crowns also have good aesthetics and are used where the patient has a requirement for a nice result.
There are several types of porcelain crowns, and they have different characteristics in terms of aesthetics and strength.
The metal porcelain has an inner core made of metal, and the outside is covered with the porcelain. The metal below will not appear on the outside.This type of porcelain crown is very strong and lasts for many years.
The metal porcelain is mostly used where a bridge is needed and when the implant is inserted into the jaw. However, it is up to the individual patient which type of porcelain crown they prefer.
The dentist will first file down the tooth so that there is room to put on the crown. When the tooth has been filed down, impression will be taken, which will be sent to the laboratory, where the dental technician will make a temporary crown of plastic.This temporary plastic crown will cover the “naked” tooth while the porcelain crown is made.
As we have our own laboratory, a temporary crown is made within 1-2 hours.A few days later, the porcelain crown will be ready. Then the dentist will remove the temporary crown, and replace it with the porcelain crown. In this case the metal porcelain.
A different procedure is followed after each treatment. Sometimes it is not a problem to eat immediately after treatment, but in some cases, the patient is asked to eat and consume soft foods a few hours later. Your doctor will inform you about these procedures.
